Ties Gijzel

Ties Gijzel was selected as runner-up for the 2021 European Press Prize Innovation Award with ‘Money to Burn.’

Ties Gijzel is an investigative journalist at Argos, the investigative journalism platform of Dutch public broadcasters Human and VPRO. At Argos, he sets up and coordinates local and cross-border investigative journalism collaborations. Ties is also the co-founder of Are We Europe, a journalistic platform for European storytelling, and a 2019 European Press Prize laureate.

Sophie Blok

Sophie Blok was selected as runner-up for the 2021 European Press Prize Innovation Award with ‘Money to Burn.’

Sophie Blok works as an investigative radio journalist for Dutch investigative journalism platform Argos. Having a background in environmental sciences she has a passion for stories about sustainability issues, such as Money to Burn, an international collaboration exploring the impact European subsidies for biomass has on Baltic forests. Other topics she has worked include the use of CCTV in Dutch municipalities; the environmental and economic impact of the draughts that hit The Netherlands in 2018 and 2019 and how bonuses for PhDs have become a lucrative business for Dutch universities.
