Tjaša Kalkan
Tjaša Kalkan was selected for the 2021 European Press Prize shortlist with ‘Sisters of Europe.’
Tjaša Kalkan is a visual artist and photographer based in Zagreb, Croatia. She holds a Master’s degree in Photography, and a BA in German and French Language and Literature. She is a regular contributor to the independent long-form journalism magazine Point.51 and the architecture and design magazine Assemble Papers. She works as a set photographer on international film sets and collaborates frequently on theatre, film, dance and music projects. She has exhibited her work in several solo and group shows, and was awarded the Audience Award at the HT-Croatian Contemporary Art Competition (2019, 2017) and the RC Young European Art Award Austria (2017).
Barbara Matejčić
Barbara Matejčić won the Special Award 2024 with ‘The Border Graves Investigation’ and was selected for the 2021 European Press Prize shortlist with ‘Sisters of Europe.’
Based in Zagreb, Barbara Matejčić is an award-winning freelance journalist, non-fiction writer and researcher focused on social affairs and human rights. She has worked with international organisations and published a non-fiction book titled “Kako ste?” [“How are you?” in English], focussed on the fate of so-called second class citizens in Croatia. Barbara also gives media training and lectures on media ethics, narrative and investigative journalism. She holds a degree in Croatian language and literature, and has been selected for several European fellowships such as the Milena Jesenska Fellowship.
