Rémy Ourdan was selected for the 2020 European Press Prize with ‘Sarajevo-Jerusalem.’
Rémy Ourdan is a journalist and war correspondent for the newspaper Le Monde.
Rémy Ourdan began working as a reporter in 1992 in Sarajevo. He covered the siege of Sarajevo and the Bosnian War for four years. In the Balkans, he also covered the Kosovo War and Serbia after the fall of Slobodan Milosevic. In Africa, he wrote a long investigative story on the Rwandan genocide, and covered conflicts in the Great Lakes region and the Congo, the Eritrean-Ethiopian war, the civil wars in Sierra Leone and the Central African Republic. Since September 11th, he covered the American wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq, and is working on al-Qaeda, Daesh and global jihad. He covered the Arab Spring, Egypt at the fall of Hosni Mubarak and the war in Libya. He also covered the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the drug war in Mexico, gangs in Central America, and the deportation of Rohyngyas from
Burma. He also covers post-war, human rights and international criminal justice issues.
Rémy Ourdan is the author-director of the documentary film The Siege (co-directed with Patrick Chauvel, Agat Films & Cie, 2016).
Rémy Ourdan is a co-founder and was the first director (2012-2019) of WARM, an international foundation on contemporary conflicts based in Sarajevo.
