Francis Farrell is an Australian-born reporter at the Kyiv Independent, Ukraine’s most prominent English-language media outlet. His career as a full-time journalist began in 2022 with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and since then he has focused on field reporting from front-line areas, both with soldiers and civilians. In 2023, Francis won the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for War Correspondents in the Young Reporter category for his coverage of the Battle of Bakhmut. He is an alumnus of Leiden University in The Hague and University College London.
