Mads Nyborg Støstad
Mads Nyborg Støstad was selected for the 2025 Shortlist with Norway in Red, White, and Grey.
Mads Nyborg Støstad is an investigative journalist working for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). He works in their Digital storytelling department, where he specializes in engaging broader audiences through visual storytelling for digital platforms. Støstad has won numerous journalism awards, both nationally and internationally: Amongst them: Storyteller of the year in Norway 2019 (“Fortellerprisen”) for the online photo documentary “Chasing climate change” and “Best News Website/Mobile Service” at the European Digital Media Awards in 2021 for the data story “Your climate future”. Støstad’s latest investigation together with colleagues at NRK, “Norway in red, white and gray” has already been named Norway’s best data journalism story of the year (“Data-Skup 2024”), Best Digital Media at Prix Europa 2024 and has been given the prestigious Innovation Prize by the Norwegian Research Council for its groundbreaking AI and satellite imagery methods. All these stories have gained significant traction in Norwegian society, each of them reaching more than a million page views in a country of 5.5 million people.
