Just Vervaart

Just Vervaart is an investigative journalist specializing in data-driven research. Passionate about uncovering hidden truths, he especially loves building datasets where none seem to exist. While his computational skills are his primary tool, he doesn’t hesitate to physically shadow trucks loaded with wooden biomass to discover their destinations. He covers a diverse array of subjects but holds a particular interest in environmental topics. Just shares his expertise with fellow journalists and students by giving presentations on using Artificial Intelligence as a research tool. He also frequently posts tutorials about his research methods on his LinkedIn-profile. He is especially inspired by New York Times journalist Sarah Jeong’s assertion: “Journalism in the modern day is the act of using your computer in a way someone somewhere would really rather you did not.” He is currently employed by Omroep Gelderland, a regional public broadcaster based in the east of the Netherlands. He hasn’t won any prizes for his work … yet. 😉
