Outline policy

Good journalism is one of the hallmarks of civilised society. Independent and critical journalists are the guardians of healthy democracies and the rule of law. With yearly awards, the European Press Prize aims to be the hallmark for quality journalism in Europe. By celebrating, facilitating and connecting journalists, the European Press Prize highlights the importance of quality journalism and supports journalists in their endeavour to contribute to independent and critical journalism that holds power to account. Our mission is to celebrate and encourage European journalism of the highest quality to help counter the effects of a transforming, pressured market and fragile press freedom and to stimulate journalists to keep contributing to the quality of journalism all over Europe. In little over ten years of existence we have gone beyond merely awarding: providing a platform that validates and celebrates journalistic excellence fostering a culture of accountability and pride among journalists, a community that helps each other fight foes too big for one person or organisation.
