Carlos was selected for the 2020 European Press Prize shortlist with ‘Europol’s Child Abuse Image Geolocated in Ukraine: A Forgotten Story Hidden Behind a Landscape.’

Carlos is a passionate open source investigator who started volunteering for Bellingcat in 2019. He has been leading several investigations to support Europol’s “Stop Child Abuse / Trace An Object” campaign. His methods are deeply rooted in his engineering background and visual analysis. By sharing his findings and collaborating with other communities, he has created a positive impact to help growing the support network and tackling online child abuse. Increasing the chances for any one child to be rescued has been at the core of his work. In just one year, Carlos has devoted 1,500 volunteering hours of his time to this cause.
